A SURE-FIRE WAY TO SLAY IN SCHOOL

Soo. Classes have started, and the initial excitement of going back to school is now easing up. It is now time to face reality: you are really back in school. It's time to actually do the work. the reality is, staying on top of your coursework and maintaining a glowing social life is not going to be a walk in the park. We'll need all the help we can get. So here are a few things to consider to get you to the top.

  1. Look after No. 1, You.

It is easy to neglect your needs to meet deadlines, be there for friends, or to appease people you barely know. But one thing you have to realise is you need to be at your best to be the best. So don't spread yourself too thin. Eat right, workout, get 8 hours of sleep, stick to your skincare routine, do whatever you need to do to take care of yourself. Learn to shut off all the noise, and set aside some me-time.

2. Celebrate small wins.

Finished your coursework with time to spare? Talked a friend into not giving up on her homework?  Made it to class on time after staying up late? Learned something new? Meal prepped for the first time? Celebrate them all! Now, not saying party every time, but acknowledging these small wins for what they are, wins, will do you good in the long run. These wins will fill up that life tank of yours that daily stressors can easily suck dry. There will be days where you will feel like you just have no energy for any more curveballs, but practicing celebrating small wins will refuel you so you don't have to go at it with an empty tank. It can be treating yourself with a face mask, (try this pink clay mask, it’s a fave!), ordering takeaway, dancing it out with friends even if it's just in your living room. It can be anything that will give you joy.

3. Find a routine that works for you.

Getting the perfect routine down is already half the battle. Once you determine how you work best, you can start focusing on studying and you can work when you are at your most productive. Organise and prioritise your tasks, make sure to include healthy breaks to refocus and recharge. This, of course, will take time to really get right but it will be worth it. It will also take dedication to stick to your routine. Get into the habit of sticking to routines.  Establish simple routines that will keep you on track. You can start with a simple skincare routine that will not take forever but still work, like this one from ZenaSkin. A simple routine that works makes it easier to stick to. The same for study routines, and  night time routine. Because what good is your perfect routine if you don’t stick to it?

4. Be present.

Remember why you're here in the first place. To study. So try to stay away from drama and distractions. Have fun, but don't lose focus. Set goals and work for it. Yes, this is where we build long lasting relationships, so make time for it and be present for it too. It's about striking a balance between school and life.

When all is said and done, going to school is so much more than just learning from the curriculum you are currently enrolled in. The school is a learning ground for a multitude of things; building your confidence, developing your morals and values, finding your people, zeroing in on things you are passionate about. Slaying in school does not necessarily mean getting straight A's. It's about becoming the person you were always meant to be. It's coming out of it equipped with the tools to slay in all aspects of life.
